Vegan full English (served all day) - Edit
A good vegan full English breakfast is hard to find, and getting one in the afternoon is even harder. They have a gluten free version as well. Great burgers and sandwiches too, and nice staff, so highly recommended!

Tricky to find, but worth it! - Edit
This sweet Vegan cafe is tucked onto the backside of its building so not visible from the street. There were small, laminated signs to follow. I was intrigued by the full Scottish style breakfast served all day, but went with the King Oyster mushroom burger and wasn’t disappointed. I heard other guests ordering soup of the day, which was mushroom, and that also sounded so good! Because I had spent the morning climbing Arthur’s Seat and then walked to Holy Cow, maybe a mile and change- I was so hungry and managed to then finish off a generous slice of Red Velvet cake, which was served with berries on top.

Delicious fresh food and lots of options - Edit
Went there for lunch- a good range of sandwiches, burgers and salads. I had the beetroot carpaccio which was delicious on bread with vegan feta. My husband had a burger which he really enjoyed too. The lemon and ginger tea was freshly made with chunks of ginger and slices of lemon.

Delicious - Edit
We had a wonderful meal there! We took the vietnamese burger and also the bbq one. Both were delicious, and the portions were generous.
Read moreWe then had desserts, one oreo cheesecake that was also reaally good, and the red velvet cake ; this one was disappointing tho, as it was kinda dry and had no flavor really!
The place was crowded but the waitress was nice!

Cute place - Edit
Tucked away in the souterrain, this cafe has a cute vibe to it and a nice selection of lunch, cakes and drinks. The BBQ burger was really good, the chips were a bit too soft and mushy. Tea was served in a cute tea pot and cup.

Good for dinner - Edit
The Reuben sandwich wasn't the best. It was too heavy on the mayo and I've had better meat substitutes in other vegan Reubens. The smoothie was good and the atmosphere was great. They also had a lovely collection of cakes but I didn't have room to try one

Very Good - Edit
I really enjoyed the vegan breakfast, coffee and juice.
Read moreFood was fairly tasty, but have had a lot better. Biggest disappointment was that the breakfast was predominantly bulked out with toast and potato scones and would have preferred an extra sausage etc especially for the price.
Overall was good though.

Much love for Holy Cow from me (and it’s sister restaurant).
Read moreI really appreciate they make everything for scratch including burgers, salads and open sandwiches. A great selection of burgers made using tofu, shroom, jackfruit, beans and celeriac.
Good salads and plenty of cakes.

Super disappointed - Edit
Because of the high ratings, I expected a nice restaurant. The food was super greasy. The sourdough bread was good, but on the avocado toast we had gluten free bread. This was super dry. The service was slow and they were quite chaotic. The toilets were not clean.

Their CARROT LOX IS DIVINE - Edit
This is one of my fav cafes in Edi. I especially recommend their Reuben sandwich and carrot lox with cashew cream cheese and homemade gf buckwheat bread. They also have incredible cakes, some raw cakes available too and really tasty. They also have an interesting selection of hot drinks(e.g Earl grey matcha!!)

Holy Cow - Edit

Tasty but Expensive and slow turnaround - Edit
Had some Gluten-free options for which I was very grateful, however the avocado sandwich I had was £10.50 for basically avo and tomato on toast - I was disappointed with the portion size. I also had some gluten free cake which was quite dense and dry. We also had to wait nearly an hour for our food.
Read moreMy girlfriend had a different sandwich which was a much better size though and very tasty.
We saw some dining in having burgers which had much bigger portions so I would recommend those.
Pros: Wide choice of food, Gluten free options
Cons: Expensive sandwiches, especially for portion size, Cake was disappointing

Disappointed - Edit
I recently visited Holy Cow with my husband and unfortunately, our experience was less than stellar. I believe in providing fair feedback, and I hope this can be taken constructively.
Read moreUpon entering the cafe, we couldn't help but notice that one member of the staff seemed visibly unhappy to be there, and her attitude significantly impacted the overall atmosphere. Her abrupt demeanor towards my husband left a negative impression, and had he not been so hungry, we might have considered leaving at that point.
When we sought information about the drinks menu, the same staff member displayed rudeness, making the overall experience less enjoyable. Consequently, I opted for just water, and my husband proceeded to eat.
It's disheartening to share this feedback, especially considering the positive reviews that initially drew us to the restaurant. Despite the unfortunate encounter with the staff, it's worth noting that the cleanliness of the place was commendable, and the food we did have was satisfactory. However, the presence of such negativity from one staff member was hard to overlook.
Pros: Clean, Quick food
Cons: Staff member, Atmosphere

Left feeling full and enjoyed the food! Almost didn’t stay as when we arrived no staff to be seen. Sat and waited clearly more fun going on in the kitchen than seeing to customers, almost left but then someone appeared and served us.

REALLY BAD!! - Edit
The chef obviously can't cope with a busy restaurant.
Read moreIt took a whole hour to get our food!!
The place was busy, and in that hour of waiting, one table got up and left, unhappy that they didn't get their food either!
Another table got food, but half the order was missing and therefore another disgruntled customer.
We ordered a Rueben sandwich, dirty fries and a portion of plain fries.
The plain fries never came.
Our dirty fries were literally fries with cajun seasoning tipped over them.. they were inedible, sadly, as we were starving.
The waitress looked unhappy and we were offered no apology. She was slow and showed no enthusiasm for being there.
I would never recommend Holy Cow to anyone.

Lovely coffee, ok food - Edit
The coffee was really good. The carrot lox was nice but was pretty salty so got a bit much after a while. The avocado was quite bland. The waiter also wasn’t very friendly.
