The best sushi I’ve ever had

I highly recommend getting the Korean BBQ Sushi with “tuna”, avocado, kimchi and sesame. It’s so good! I really love this place, I’ve been there two times in a week and I’ll come back again. The only cons I have is the quite little amount of ginger you get and some longer waiting periods, but in the end it’s still worth the wait :)

Pros: Many fresh options, Very good substitutes, Friendly service

Cons: a bit expensive , too little amounts of ginger , longer waiting periods

Great Food

We went here to have a small dinner after gamescom today. It was really crowded, but we were offered 2 seats at the bar. Great, so we could watch the two ladies working.
We ordered and got the food really quickly, although a lot of people were in before us. The green tea was good. The soup, edamame and sushi plate was excellent and really fresh! I was impressed of the "lucky no fish" sushi! So similar to tuna - but 100% vegan! So lovely. We paid about 33,50/37€ with tip for 2 persons.
We will come back!

Pros: Vegan only

Cons: Edamame was heated up in the microwave

Yes, go!

Best vegan sushi. Actually it was my first time going to an exclusively vegan sushi place and I would go back as many times as I could if I lived in Germany.
Please try the "Big Daddy Bacon", or something like that. Super special sushi and recommendable.

Pros: "Bacon" sushi, Cosy space, Price

One of my two favorite vegan restaurants in colgne

Before I started eating vegan, I was a fan of sushi and I couldn't imagine sushi food without fish. When I visit MakiMaki Sushi Green, I learned I was wrong. There are several substitutes for fish like, mushrooms, sweet potato, grilled pepper and many more. I can recommend the edamame and miso soup as starters, the sushi as main course and the sweet sushi as desserts.
I recommend this restaurant to all my non-vegan friend who say they don't like sushi because of fish :-) This is not a excuse any more.
The preparation takes some time and if you want have a good time, you should make a reservation. It is not very cheap, but the effort of making good sushi is worth it!

underwhelming

It was very busy, sweet staff...
I waited an hour for my food, I ordered a mixed plate and the variety that was showing on the picture was lacking my plate, the rice was hard , flavours so so and the bill was high :(
I was probably there at the wrong time..

Best Sushi Ever

Sushi is one of my favorite foods, so I am very excited about this all vegan place! They have a very big variety of delicious sushi and other awesome dishes like kimchi.
Everything looks very nice and tastes amazing. I recomment the Tagesbento Deluxe so you can try out a lot of different sushi.
This place is a little bit more expensive, but they also have special deals for lunchtime and students and the portions are really filling.

Pros: all vegan sushi, big variety, very special and ta

Cons: expensive

Creative Sushi

Besides the classical sushis this place offers a lot of very creative sushi variations that are inspired by all sorts of international cuisine like barbecue style sushi and others. Fusion cuisine at its best. Not only for sushi fans. The Quality is very good. Prices appropriate.

amazingly creative

Full vegan sushi restaurant, includes soups, sushi, green tea options, some beer and wine. Extremely helpful staff, pleasant atmosphere, great prices. Living near by, I stop by often and try everything. It is all amazing. Even when I am not sure what I ordered ( the menu is all in German) I have never been anything but thrilled with the food here.

Pros: all vegan, tons of options, very creative vegan rolls

Best Vegan Sushi

I loved everything there! Well, just the fermented soy beans are very special and not my thing.
But anything else was great. I wish I would have had the time to test everything :-)

Oishi!

True story: once I stayed in Japan in a five star hotel. The hotel had its own sushi restaurant and as a hotel guest I went to this in-house restaurant. Of course I was welcomed as a valued guest and everyone was ever so kind. But when I asked for vegetarian sushi the staff was insulted and actually threw me out. How dare I asked for something like vegetarian sushi!

So when I saw "MakiMaki Green Sushi" on Happy Cow, I had to give it a try. "MakiMaki Green Sushi" is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Cologne, but once you're there it's a warm welcome. It says "The first vegan sushi bar in Cologne" on the window, so I was pretty sure I would not be thrown out this time.

The staff speaks both English and German, but the menu is only in German. However, with pictures, English titles (but German descriptions) and the help of the personnel it's easy to make a choice.

I went for the "bento deluxe" which consists of tea, miso soup and 14 pieces of sushi. The soup was very good and because fresh vegetables were added at the last moment (and not cooked with the soup), it had an even better taste than standard Japanese miso soup.

The sushi is creative, sometimes even daring and always tasty. There's simple, elegant yet surprising beat-sushi as well as more complicated sushi with more than 8 ingredients. Everything was tasty and the quality of the ingredients seems to be very good. Compared to true Japanese sushi (no one of the staff is Japanese or has ever been trained by a Japanese chef) there's less rice and more vegetable. Therefore it's not a vegan version of Japanese sushi, but rather a unique creation by MakiMaki Green Sushi. And I enjoyed every single bite of it!

When I told them how far I travelled to get there, I received "Sweet Geisha Love" as a free side dish. Although I was already quite stuffed after eating the lunch menu, the rather complicated "Sweet Geisha Love" proved to be even more tasty than my main dish.

Since I don't know how to say "tasty" in German, I'll say it in Japanese: Oishi!

Pros: generous portions, fair price, great taste

Cons: a bit outside the city centre (but easy to find), hard to find a parking spot nearby (if you come by

Amazing sushi place

We went to this vegan sushi restaurant when we visited Cologne and it surpassed our expectations. I recommend the ones you can order individually rather than the specials. We ended up chatting with the owner who is very passionate about veganism and told us his story. He was incredibly nice and welcoming to us, and made it an experience I will never forget.
