Achtung: Es ist (zumindest Samstags) sehr gut besucht, man sollte reservieren! Die Reservierung gilt für 2 Stunden und die Küche schließt um 22 Uhr - alles sehr üblich, aber wir brauchten bei der langen und verführerischen Karte recht lang für die Entscheidung, wollten eine zweite Runde... #Veganuary

- Add pictures of the dishes
- Mention allergens and if it is possible to make the dish allergen free

I was sceptical at first because I thought you could only choose between cucumber, paprica and avocado makis but boy was I wrong. Maki Maki has a wide range of creative creations with so many ingredients that make you miss nothing that regular sushi has. It‘s very delicious.
Read moreOn the downside it‘s very pricy, you‘ll have to wait longer for the food (which is understandable hence they make everything fresh from scratch) and the staff seemed a little hectic.
It‘s a very interesting and exciting experience for vegans that miss good sushi. :)

Everything on the menu is excellent. My favorites are the Just Red, Korean Hills of Fire and The Russian Game, and especially Mushroom Aioli. The Natto Gunkan is great and I like The Natto in a bowl, the Natto Don, the most. Can’t go wrong eating here.

I only ate vegan self made sushi so far, so this meal was a whole new experience for me and I am overwhelmed!!! Everyone has to taste this vegan sushi, it's the best thing I ever ate. I was so full after the starters and the main meal but I had to eat the dessert too, because just look at it. 😍 It would be a pity to not eat everything served. Would go there totally again, when I am in cologne.

Essen gut, Service eine Katastrophe - Edit
Einmal konnten wir erfolgreich bei Maki Maki Sushi essen. Wobei erfolgreich relativ ist: Das Essen war gut (wobei ich schon besseres veganes Sushi hatte), aber der Service ist eine Katastrophe. Für jedes Getränk wird einzeln an den Tisch gegangen, jedes Take away wird vor dem Essen für die Gäste im Restaurant zubereitet. Die Wartezeiten sind enorm, nicht, weil alles frisch zubereitet wird, sondern weil hier unerfahrene Servicemitarbeitende aktiv sind.

Vor 2 Wochen wollten wir Maki Maki erneut eine Chance geben. Wir haben explizit draußen einen Tisch reserviert, man sagte uns am Telefon, dass dies kein Problem sei. Angekommen war draußen alles voll. Auf unsere Nachfrage, sagte man uns, wir könnten nur drinnen sitzen. Auf unseren Hinweis, dass wir draußen reserviert hätten nur gleichgültiges Achselzucken. Auf die Frage, wann draußen was frei werde, bekamen wir eine unfreundliche Antwort. Wir haben unser Geld dann lieber in einem anderem Restaurant gelassen.

Cons: Unfreundlicher unkompetenter Service, Ungemütliche Atmosphäre

If you like sushi, this is MUST in Cologne!!! It is delicious, fresh and beautiful! We came there two times and both times we literally stuffed us with rolls, because we wanted to try as much as possible! Absolutely delicious miso soup, warm sake and green tea. No need to go to Japan! This set up really high standard! If you can, make a reservation, they are usually full!

Read moreBecause there was so much choice we just ordered the bento maki (they put together a plate with different kinds of sushi). It was really good! I hope some day there will be a restaurant like this in my neighbourhood.
I also had the wakame salad as an appetizer and that also was delicious.
I hope these kind of restaurants will pop up everywhere.
