Hidden Gem - Edit
This restaurant is hidden in an alley located very near the Yasaka shrine and also the Gion geisha district. The menu is limited but what’s on offer is delicious! The food is a unique mix of Russian/Ukrainian and Japanese cuisine. The tea on offer is quite tasty as well!
Read moreIt’s a relatively small space that is able to seat 8 people at most, so if it’s filled up, be prepared to have to come back in an hour. The staff is very friendly and speaks Japanese, Russian, English and Ukrainian! The place has a warm and social atmosphere and you might find yourself chatting with the staff as well as other customers! It’s a memorable experience!

Great takeout - Edit
Had the main plus dessert as a takeout to enjoy eating in Maruyama park. Waited around 20mins for it. The protein in the main is changed daily. Today's was the scrambled tofu which is really good. Really liked the presentation of the food. There was a queue before 12 to enter the restaurant so go early.

Calm gem in Gion - Edit
This is a nice lunch place in a tiny alley in the north of Gion. The two ladies who run the place are very keen on preparing good food of high quality, as well as making you feel welcome. The teas are up to the japanese standard, means very good. They regularly offer one dish/day, additionally a soup and desert, which can be ordered separately, everything made of fresh, widely seasonal ingredients. Check it out!

A hidden Vegan gem - Edit
This restaurant was a highlight of my travels in Japan. It is a very cozy one counter restaurant. There is only one main course option per day but it is always so good that one is all you need. They do also sell appetizers, desert and drinks which are all great as well. I recommended the Zirael Tea 🍵

Stumbled on this spot by chance. They have a set lunch menu. Pretty simple but nutritious - we had brown rice with baked tofu and a side salad.
