Overpriced basic food - Edit
The food here is fine but it really wasn't anything exceptional but in a city that doesn't have many veggie restaurants it's the place you're going to hit. The pay per weigh buffet is very expensive but most places in Basel are!

Love Tibits! - Edit
When i visited Basel this was close by and so easy to eat and go. Buffet style eating and lots of vegan options. It varies by day and restaurant. Its very good and I enjoyed every dish I tried. Can’t wait to visit again.

Fresh and tasty food - Edit
I came here on a recommendation, knowing that it wouldn’t be cheap. You fill up your plate, weigh it and pay accordingly.
Read moreThe food is marked with vegan and vegetarian but in really small prints. It was really good however, lots of flavours and fresh. There’s also a dessert buffé.

Pricey but delicious! - Edit
Very tasty and great atmosphere! You have to be careful though not to put too much food on your plate. Do it cleverly, and you‘ll be full spending around 10-15 chf.

Great atmosphere - Edit
Very nice place with fantastic atmosphere. The foods were great and fresh with large selection. We liked this place so much, during our 4 days in Basel we visited it 2 times. That's true it's a little bit pricey but not that bad. It is highly recommended not for only vegetarians but also for vegans, because the majority of the foods are vegan.

Delicious but pricey - Edit
There is a huge variety of foods to choose from, it's in buffet form and you pay per weight. The food is amazing but for me, as a student, it is quite pricey. The store-made ice tea is also amazing.

Excelent but pricey - Edit
I loved almost everything about this place: the food, the location, the deco. I had a really nice time there. The only one downside is the price. You pay according to the weight of the food you choose. 43 CHF per kg is for me way too much.

So much food to choose from ! - Edit
The only downside of eating here is you end up eating way too much thanks to the choice! Really nice food , allergens well marked and hot food tasted fresh ; nothing seemed like it had been left out too long as can be the case with buffets.

Tasty lunch if s little pricey - Edit
Good range of stuff and everything is labelled fir allergens. It was quite hot inside (not sure if Tibits ever have air con?). Everything is by weight (and it is Switzerland...) , so it was a bit pricey about 50CF for lunch for two of us. But quite tasty and it’s useful to have onions, garlic and nuts labelled

Unsuitable for vegans - Edit
I am vegan because of my allergies to milk and eggs: my body cannot digest more than half a tablespoon of the latter. I love Hiltl and really wanted to enjoy this derived restaurant, but despite my careful attention to the labels I had multiple allergic reactions; I didn't feel well during my meal and lost my appetite. I suspect the "vegan" (no "O" or "L" sign) lemon cake and the chocolate mousse, I'm not sure. Beware of the unlabeled peas with chunks of cheese which genuinely look like potatoes (luckily I noticed the taste before swallowing, though it did make my tongue sore). On the other hand, the salads were very good and the multilingual staff was very kind. However after a stomach ache and an eczema reaction, I do not feel like coming again.

Great food - Edit
This is a place for everyone, vegans, vegetarians and omnivores as well. The food is so delicious and there are so many choices that I don't need to persuade my meat-loving friends to accompany me to this fully vegetarian restaurant.

No food sundays after 10:30 pm sharp - Edit
Very good food. 10 mins by foot from central train station (or two tram stops). Sundays, no food after 10:30 pm sharp (i.e., sharp on the second, literally). Onions and garlic clearly labeled. Nice food ideas, e.g., peas with peppermint. // Very expensive if you come from Europe: Food for 2 will cost around 70 €.

Tibits - Edit
Tibits is located in downtown Basel. They provide a buffet with all kind of food. So you just take a plate, pick what you want and go to the counter to pay (you pay for the weight of the food, regardless what dishes you have choosen). The price is 42CHF/kilo. One (small) roll is free, it won't be weighed - so be sure to take one.
Read moreThe range is good, so is the spacious venue. No complaints about the quality neither. Overall good stuff, although nothing exciting.
The labeling was slightly confusing for me: All vegan food is labeled, but there are other lables as well, gluten free and whatnot, so everything has it's own letter. Also disappointing is that you have to wait at the counter while your food becomes cold. For the rest, of cause, it's expensive; somewhat pointless to say it time and again, since that's how the prices are in Switzerland, but I can't possibly not mention that either.
Since you pay by weight - it would be interesting to know what the best picks are. Certainly lightweight food that satisfies and most certainly no potatoes, no rice and suchlike. But for instance: Sauces yes or no?
I would possibly go again, but mainly due to lack of other options.
Pros: opening hours, one of few fairly decent options in Basel, good range
Cons: expensive, nothing exciting, food becomes cold whilst queueing

Vegan Tuesdays are great! - Edit
Another great Tibits location, with the same high-quality food. This one has ample seating (unlike the original location in Bern), and the atmosphere in the upstairs seating section is more relaxed. The all-vegan buffet on Tuesdays is even more of a treat than usual.

Great selection of vegetarian and vegan-friendly food - Edit
Tibits offers a huge selection of vegetarian dishes, most of which are also vegan. Every Tuesday is also "Vegan Tuesday" where everything across the board - with very few, minor but labelled exceptions - is vegan.
Read moreThe food is delicious and filling, the prices - while a little on the steep side - are fair.
One pitfall that should be mentioned is that some "vegetarian" products are in fact pescetarian (e.g. tuna sauce). So keep your eyes peeled and your brains sharp ;-P
Pros: HUGE selection of vegetarian dishes, Relaxed and cozy atmosphere
Cons: A bit on the expensive side, Some options are pescetarian
AppetiteForChange
Hi phex
Read moreJust read your comment about some dishes at tibits being pescetarian. The tuna sauce at tibits is made from seaweed, capers and pascal celery and is indeed vegan. :) The dishes at tibits are 100% vegetarian and about 80% vegan.

Great food, very expensive - Edit
The food was really enjoyable... Really great vegan options, which is just so welcome when on holiday, especially in France / Switzerland where everything contains dairy!! Only downside is the price.. It is very overpriced.. Expect about 25CHF for one plate (and still slightly hungry)! Although, everything in Switzerland is expensive.

Really great vegan food. - Edit
Really great restaurant. I went on Tuesday, which is a vegan only day and I wasn't disappointed! There were so many options and different styles of cuisine to taste.
Read moreThere were constantly chefs roaming to replenish any food that is getting low.
It's also good for those that just want to get a drink as they also offer alcoholic drinks (as well as other non-alcoholic ones).
After my dinner, I went to the bar and bought a slice of their zucchini and chocolate cake and a bottle of their homemade matcha ice tea (all ice teas are homemade).
If you find yourself in Basel, you definitely need to check Tibits out!
Pros: Large selection of food, Good quality, Choice of seating (inside or outside)
