Incredible cocktails and small plates - Edit
If you’re into your cocktails there’s nowhere better, vegan or otherwise. Amazing creations you won’t find anywhere else. Nowhere else like it!

I cannot sing the praises of Speak in Code highly enough. Really inventive cocktails, all served in an intimate venue. Over the course of the evening I tried everything from a gin infused with subdried tomatoes to a shiitake mushroom bourbon with a sweetcorn purée! As well as original and bold inventions, they also do twists on classics and are happy to make standards on request.

Voted one of the top 20 cocktail bars for a reason. Everything here is amazing, all details on point. From the music to the menus and the excellent extremely friendly staff and of course delicious cocktails make this a mus visit. Will come again!

It was always our intention to just have a menu of small plates. We're a cocktail bar first and foremost, and don't operate as a restaurant... We're all bartenders at Speak in Code, and all of the food (Cauli wings, Focaccia, Steamed Buns, Seitan Tenders & 'Neatballs' are all home made by our small team of bartenders.
We wanted our main focus to be on our speciality and our capabilities, which is drinks, and the food to be an added bonus, and to fill some spaces.
It's not our intention any time soon to hire a chef, we're happy with a limited food menu so we can continue to provide quality drinks and service.

I’d just like to have the opportunity to explain a few points about atmosphere, price point and decor from our side as I would have if it came up in conversation at the bar…
price point is pretty much mostly to do with the detail that goes into our product across the board, and the time and investment that goes into those details by each member of the team,
We’re fairly priced for the actual product we offer😄
As for the intimate vibe, we seat 43 people and then we’re at capacity. We have 5 tables of two, 3 tables of 4, one table of 5 and one table of 6, and then we can seat 5 couples at the bar. Most of the time the table of 5 and table of 6 are still taken up by groups of 4. So we do pride ourselves on our intimate nature and we don’t budge on our capacity or our policy on maximum party size so that we do maintain that quality of service and intimacy.
As for decor, we’re a small bar without the corporate budget, so we add and adjust when we have the budget to do so but we definitely do try, and we all chip in when needed with a lick of paint or putting up some shelving etc…
More than happy to adjust drinks in house if you would talk to us in house. We check on all tables multiple times so there would have been an opportunity for you to mention you weren’t entirely happy with yours. With regards to drink quantities - pretty much 90% of our extensive menu is home made, and above and beyond what is standard practice in an average bar, and as a minimum all of our cocktails contain at least 60ml of an alcohol base, 10ml more than what you’ll find in an average bars cocktail program too.. We’re happy to go into the details of our intricate drinks menu on your next visit. It’s just earned us a spot in the top 10 cocktail bars in the UK 🔥 Which is huge for a Vegan venue.
Thanks for hearing us out, I’d much rather have honest and open conversations in person at the bar to give perspective and so there’s no misunderstanding / miscommunication, and for us to be there to help in any cases such as you felt you were short handed with your drink.

Best cocktails I've had in a long time. Outstanding service and relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. Authentic Fifties New York feel and diverse crowd. Omnivores would never know it's entirely plant based. We ate at The Allotment round the corner so didn't try the small plates here, but this was the ideal post-dinner chilled experience. The lo-fi hip hop was awesome. We were the last walk-in to be seated and we saw others turned away from 8pm on a Friday. We will book next time.

Best cocktail bar in Manchester - Edit
Absolutely love this place for so many reasons. Firstly, the staff here are incredibly passionate about what they do. Cocktail and plant-based nerds through and through, they expertly craft novel, interesting and delicious cocktails from vegan ingredients. Their menu is unique, but they would even craft you a bespoke drink if you asked for one. Constantly innovating new drinks and food recipes, it's never boring coming here, and there's always something new. The ambiance and decor is wonderful too. It's refreshing to be able to come to a cocktail bar and not worry about sneaky egg whites or isinglass. Just, love it here 😍
