Best food I have had in my entire life

As the title says, best food I’ve had my entire life. This includes foods prior to going vegan. The flavors are incredible and indescribable. The depth of flavor they create blew me away. And you’d think the prices would be ridiculous but it was completely affordable! Would return a million times and still want to go back. 11/10 stars.

Pros: Amazing Food, Friendly Staff, Great Value

Cons: Waiting Time

Best Sushi Ever

This is by far the best sushi experience you will have. Not only is it 100% plant based, but the menu is not basic avo+cucumber sushi you get at other restaurants. So creative! The presentation is done beautifully. The inside is small and can become noisy. Wait is usually at least an hour, unless you reserve much in advance. Pricey, but worth it.

Pros: Best sushi

Cons: $$$, Long wait

Best Vegan Sushi

Hands down the best vegan sushi restaurant, and I’ve been to a few because sushi was one of my favorite foods before going vegan. This place hit it out of the park!!!!!! All the dishes were cooked/prepared to perfection!

Pros: All vegan, Low cost, Beautiful restaurant and ambiance

Cons: None that I can honestly think of

Feels like a real sushi restaurant.

Creative vegan rolls and Japanese dishes. One of the best vegan sushi restaurants I’ve found. Really great.

So delicious!

Just had an amazing meal at Shizen. The service was great. They even were able to accommodate and use soy paper for our rolls instead of seaweed (which I find too oceanic tasting). Yay! Our favorite dishes wound up being the brussels sprouts, Open Invitation roll, Hidden Agenda roll & the Boddy (sic) and Soul roll - but everything we ordered was really good [one sole exception was the warm brownie which was meh]. I so wish they’d open a location in Los Angeles! Come to L.A. please!

Pros: All vegan, Yum, yum, yum, Good service

Cons: Wait to get in

Delicious

I love this place! The atmosphere is upscale and posh, and the food is delicious. Hands down my favorite place for sushi. Be sure to get your reservations in early though since it’s always crowded.

OMG...blown away! A MUST for any sushi lover!

If you are a sushi lover, you will be seriously blown away. I have been eating sushi for as long as I can remember before I was vegan and growing up in Hawaii. I found this place and now am completely wowed by the sushi they create here. The best seriously. Total sushi bar and restaurant atmosphere and all vegan! We tried so many things we had to roll out of there. Make a reservation a week in advance. If you are walk in, the wait can be up to 2 hours so plan well. If you walk in get there when they open as there will still be a wait.

Pros: Sushi that will blow your mind. , Lively atmosphere, Great service

Cons: Long wait w/out a reservation, You could get turned away w/out a reservation.

SUSHI FOR ALL

finally, sushi for vegans. this place is so good. the rolls are good (pick differently prepared types so you don't end up with four fried ones - pick one fresh, one fried, one saucy, etc. the brussel sprouts are good too all the different sushi like the tomato "tuna." don't get in line - get on the virtual wait list and walk around until its time to eat.

Ramen and Sushi

Location was good as within walking distance of accommodation not to mention close to the centre also
The restaurant seems to be booked far in advance but we took a punt at a waiting list table and it seems for small party it is a popular choice.
We both had gyoza, then differing ramen with a side of sushi.
All was exquisite
Highly recommend

Pros: Vegan Japanese , Chilled atmosphere , Great service

Cons: Busy so try to book

Must Visit While In SF

While most sushi places have a few vegan options, it is such a treat to go to an all vegan sushi place. Shizen is definitely worth a visit, just make sure to use their Yelp powered waitlist feature through their website to get in line before going because there will be a wait!
I'm not sure exactly what all we ordered, but I think we had a Brussels sprouts starter, the Philadelphia roll.,the Secret Weapon, and something with tempura...I think the Boddy and Soul. It was really hard to pick from the lengthy menu. Everything was tasty.
The drinks were good, but nothing special. We were seated at the sushi counter, and would have preferred a table for ambiance, but it was not a big deal.

Pros: All vegan menu with creative rolls

Cons: Very busy

Amazing food, but ambience needs work

I love the food here. I do, but to be honest, I don't like going here. First, they don't the reservations. They are only open between 5pm and 10pm, so if you want to make sure that you get in, your party has to show up at 4:30 and stand outside, even in the rain, and if your entire at isn't there when they open, you wont be seated. If you show up at 5pm, you can get on the wait list which fills up really quickly. It's in the heart of the Mission, so you're likely going to be asked for money or other things while you stand and wait. There is no other option, but to just deal with it.

If you're disabled and can't stand outside waiting, oh well, you're screwed. They will not open the door and let you sit down to wait.

The stress and uncertainty makes me not want to go there and definitely not invite other people who could be late and ruin your chance to get a table. And this applies every day of the week, its not just weekends.

Second, if you're lucky enough to get in and get a table, the seats are very uncomfortable. You might get a wooden bench or a hard chair, but if you're a 5th wheel, you'll get a hard wooden stool with no back. Again, not very disabled friendly.

Third, it's SO LOUD!!! Even the wait staff has a hard time hearing you when you order. The walls are all hard surfaces with no sound dampening, the music is blasting and people are packed in so the voices and other conversations batter you throughout the meal.

Like I said, the food is very good and there's nothing like it in the city. But all the stress of getting in, the uncomfortable seating, the loud atmosphere, plus how expensive it is for food that does not leave you feeling full unless you drop at least $100, just not worth going very often.

Pros: Very good different food

Cons: Expensive, Loud, hard seats, not good atmosphere, Not disabled-friendly

Simply the BEST

Best sushi I’ve ever had. Everything was so fresh and tasted so amazing. Was a line out the door even before it opened and I’m glad I decided to wait myself. Did not disappoint. Was just hear visiting but will certainly come back to this gem the next time I’m on the wear coast again. Plot switch, colonial pipe, avocado roll, surprised ending, beet salad and this lovely dessert with a chocolate brownie with green tea ice cream on top plus a tempura banana with two strawberries dipped in chocolate. All I can say is YUM!

Pros: 100% all vegan sushi that’s absolutely amazing , Ambiance , Food is super fresh and all unique tastes

Cons: None

It’s ok but not that good

The waiting system is a little weird. We have been waited for a long time. The sushi we ordered tasted salty! The service was “speed”. A little upset, honestly !

Incredible!!

I wish I had a bigger stomach! I’d love to try everything. The three rolls I had though were so so good. The specialty rolls are on the pricier side but 1000% worth it. 10/10 would recommend

Really nice sushi.
You have to wait for a bit apparently you can put yourself on the waiting list via yelp. It seemed to be a bit expensive but then again it is San Francisco...

Pros: completely vegan, nice atmosphere if you get a good table

Cons: long wait

Best sushi ever

I was a huge sushi fan and it was the hardest thing to give us. I have to say that Shizen has the best sushi, vegan or otherwise. It tasted so fresh and delicious. Their atmosphere and plating was beautiful. It makes me want to move to San Fransisco just for their food.

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly staff, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Usually a long line, Not much seating

Ultimate date night.

Wow - what an incredible experience at Shizen. My wife and I take sushi seriously, and being WFPB, it’s challenging to find diverse options at typical sushi bars. Search no longer - Shizen delivered above and beyond our expectations. You know your meal is going to rule when your appetizer (garlic edamame) leaves you speechless. We ordered specialty rolls, all incredible, with the Surprise Ending winning for creativity - one roll is especially hot, and the chewer of said roll is treated to a sake shot because...why not? Our service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was fresh and hip. Expensive, yes, but I believe worth the money.

Pros: Incredible variety., So fast!, Great atmosphere.
