Not my cup of tea - Edit
I’m gonna have to go against everyone else here… but my Kiwi husband gives it a 5/5 “because you know what it is”.
Read moreIMO toast roll was the best thing we tried, but I would’ve preferred an actual tostie because I love them. Cheese was good, but the squirts of butter on top wasn’t.
We also had the breakfast burrito, which again was good, but tasted too much like fast food for my liking. Husband quote “it taste like they’ve bought all the ingredients pre made, put them in a burrito and heated them together”. Sure, yummy combinations, but it was a bit too processed for me.
Cake… this was by far what let me down. The banana cake did not taste of banana, again, Kiwi husband says it’s 100% the same as his school cake sales or something. But the frosting was not properly made, you could taste the sugar crystals in it. It tasted funky, and not like chocolate at all. The lady at the farmers market however, her “simple” cake was amazing!
We also had to wait about 15 minutes to be served, since the man seemed to prepare for the lunch rush before serving us and one other customer - who was waiting so patiently, but in the end got really confused but couldn’t say anything because he’d already said he was happy waiting. And we were both there at opening. So a bit random…
We won’t be going back, but if you like this kind of NZ/junk food it’s great!

What if Marie Antoinette had been vegan? - Edit
It was essential to have lunch at Dunedin’s foremost (read: only) vegan cafe, so we came here on our first full day in the city. From the menu if sandwichy-type things we chose the salami & cheddar baguette and the beef burger burrito. The baguette was divine: tasty, fresh and satisfying. The burrito was hearty, with dark, rich-tasting mock meat in it. I ordered a filter coffee with soy milk too, which turned out to be free with purchases over $10, but after drinking it I decided it was probably appropriately priced at $2.50. We had also made a cake order from LTEV, and it did take a lot of chasing up. I understand they might have been very busy, so I’m making the decision not to take any points off this time, but I will if it happens again. The cafe itself and its staff are lovely.

The absolute best for vegan food - Edit
Every product Is well thought off and absolutely delicious. A custard square is something I never thought I'd have agai but these guys nailed it. Cheddar cheese and camber is top notch and thier chicken substitute is fantastic too. Be honest that's all I've tried from the fridge. Pies are also 10 out of 10.

Outstanding baguette and much more! - Edit
This beautiful fully vegan cafe is a must if you’re in Dunedin- they make all they’re ‘cheeses’ and ‘meats’ and the result was an outstanding baguette. The couple we met were legends as well and we wish them all the best for the future.

Let them eat custard! - Edit
Went to Let Them Eat Vegan for the first time ever on Saturday and had the most beautiful custard square. I could not tell it apart from any egg or milk containing version. It was smooth, with just the right hint of vanilla, and perfect texture. Icing was very sweet (a bit too much??), but otherwise delicious.
