Outstanding pizza - Edit
The texture and flavor are excellent. I was expecting something thick like Chicago style but that’s not this at all. The crust here is so fluffy and flavorful that it’s hard to stop eating it. Truly an outstanding pizza and very creative menu. I can’t wait to come back and try the others.

You don't need to be vegan to think this is the best pizza you've ever had. It is just the best. From their custom made mozz, thick Detroit style crust with the crispy edges. This pizza is everything you want and then some. I usually have the Head On Collision with mozz, vegan sausage, vegan pepperoni, and red sauce. Then red sauce dollops on top with fresh basil over it all. You can't do any better than this.

Got the Jimmy Pesto and can’t stop talking about how good it was. The texture, the flavors, the surprising combination of cheddar and pesto. I was shocked that it worked so perfectly and could taste so amazing. Damn.

I'm probably never going to be happy with vegan cheese, but having said that this place has a very good cheese mix, plus excellent ricotta, and good crust.

Update: I fell in Love with boxcar when I first tried it in 2023. These days, I've been a bit put off by their vegan cheese mix. It's probably a me thing, but their vegan cheese is really sticky/melty and maintains some of that sticky/melty in the mouth. Regardless, their Detroit style pizza with thick, bready crust is a master class in texture. I think I've been getting spoiled by trying other vegan pizza spots in town.

The Very Best Pizza - vegan or otherwise - Edit
I can't imagine finding anything tasting better than Boxcar--if I do, I will have surely found myself in some hedonistic heaven/hell! The pizzas continually and consistently leave us in awe. The kale salad is so scrumptious and full of crunch with those amazing croutons. The wings are weird and yet satisfyingly titillating. Every visit is a delight!

I had never had pizza like this before, but I really enjoyed this. It’s pretty heavy, but the pizzas themselves are really well made, and the different toppings balance flavours nicely. Definitely will order from here again!

Fantastic Detroit style pizza! - Edit
I got the Nashville hot chicken pickle pizza, jalapeno bacon cheesy bread, and the mozzarella sticks. Everything was really delicious. The bread is the perfect balance of crispy/fluffy. The flavors were on point. Next time I go in I would get the wings instead of mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were okay, but didn't blow my mind. The ranch dressing was fabulous. We ate in our car because the restaurant is very small and narrow and the only other seating is outside in a garage type situation. I'd still rate it 5 stars thats how good the pizza is. ✨👍

Favourite pizza in Portland - Edit
Im from Canada and I enjoy going to Boxcar Pizza whenever I’m down in the city for a trip! Not only are their pizzas vegan but they’re also tasty and fulfilling. I’ve only tried probably half of the menu and some of the wing flavours but they’ve been nothing but flavourful and left me wanting for more. Also, I really love their blue cheese with the wings, absolutely so good.

Omg this pizza is amazing! I love deep dish pizza and this is just really tasty. We had the mozzarella sticks, apes dos mil and bacon damn sure. I enjoy the vibe of being outside when inside which is what you get at the Zipper food court. Also, single stall gender neutral ADA restrooms with grab bars. No step to enter food hall.

Best pizza and best people, hands down. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone who loves a good pizza, be they meat eaters or vegans. The gluten free dough is just as good as the regular dough, so our gluten intolerant friends don't miss out, either.

First time diner- Cheeseburger Pizza is excellent! So good, I couldn’t eat it all in one sitting. Great value for the amount of pizza. Sourdough crust is light, airy yet still crunchy! Very good. The Kale Caesar Salad is wonderful, too!!
