Vegetarian restaurant located above the Songjiang Nanjing Station exit and upstairs from a bakery. Serves Cantonese style dim sum typical of Hong Kong except that it's all vegetarian and vegan. Menu has food photos, so you can point to the dishes you want. Choices includes small dim sum plates (like dumplings and buns) as well larger entrees. Has fresh juices. Interior is spacious with large round tables covered in white cloths. Finer than your typical veggie eatery in Taiwan. At Songjiang Nanjing MRT Exit 8. Open Mon-Fri 11:30am-4:30pm, Mon-Sun 5:30pm-9:30pm, Sat-Sun 11:00am-2:30pm.

Amazing dim sum - Edit
When a local resident heard I was vegan, he immediately recommended Yang Shin, and thank goodness he did! This was our best meal in Taipei. Loved every item we got--and there were so many options! Reasonably priced, too.

Really good veg dim sum - Edit
I was so excited to try this place when I read that they have veg xiaolongbao. While my omnivore Taiwanese mother assured me that they’re not as good as nonveg xiaolongbao, I was really happy with them. I especially enjoyed the monkey head mushroom dish (I think it was kung pao), the fried turnip pastry, and rice noodle rolls.

Pros: Foods are so tasty, attract many foreigners., Service is great., Location is very convenient.
Cons: Booking isn't so easy because it's always full., Too close to my home, only 80 meters.

Great food, slow service - Edit
Food was great! Compared to similar fine dining fast food restaurants (Din Tai Fung style), the service here was a bit too slow. Several of our dishes seemed to be forgotten about and we had to remind the staff several times. Otherwise a great experience though!

Incredible dim sum! - Edit
Be prepared for a long wait to be seated and get your food. Once it comes out, it’ll likely be among the best Dim Sum you’ve had. It’s definitely quite upscale, but worth it. Recommend the BBQ ham buns, and sweet potato sesame dumplings for dessert.

Delicious dim sum in busy vegetarian restaurant - Edit
Read more in this vegan Taipei guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-taipei-guide/
Read moreThis is a great place to go to try out vegan Chinese yum cha and dim sum. Most of the choices are vegan. The ones with egg or milk are marked clearly.
You can find the classic dim sum like siu mai, dumplings, buns, rice noodle rolls and rice rolls here. Special mention to the black sesame paste, which is a sweet black sesame dessert. The one here is fragrant and perfectly smooth. Siu mai is pretty great as well. They also have other main dishes which will be more suitable for dinner time.
One thing to keep in mind is that this place is very busy. Despite being a decent-sized restaurant, the whole place was filled up at around 12:30.
Pros: Delicious dim sum, Clearly marked vegan options

A Fancy restaurant and a place to be seen - Edit
Yang shin is a very nice upscale vegetarian restaurant with a nice view of the city. There are many vegan dishes, and the menu has pictures with a little symbol of an egg or milk if the dish is not vegan. The food is very nice. They make typical (but fancified) dim sum and serve it family style. Please note that the person who makes the reservation is entitled to pay, so don't let your family or host make the reservation if you intend to pay!

Elegant Restaurant on 2nd Floor (Above Nozomi Bakery) - Edit
Location on Happy Cow is off, restaurant is above Nozomi Bakery (exit 8 of station, turn left)
Read moreThe place is bustling, service is excellent and very professional (staff spoke English, Menu also in English).
Food was delicious, especially the Cantonese Chow Mein, Xiaolong Bao and Traditional Tofu Pudding! (So happy we could find a traditional xiaolong bao with soup filling that was vegan friendly!)
Only reason I gave 4 star is because the porcini dumpling and bbq vege-ham bun were not as good as we expected.

Traditional Chinese restaurant - Edit
Large, loud venue with a huge menu. Non-vegan items clearly marked. It wasn't cheap but it was great to try a range of dishes. The "duck" pancakes and mushroom skewers with curry sauce were the highlights of the items we tried. Note that there are 2 hour sittings all day, and you will have to be out before the next sitting.

Best food ever! - Edit
This is seriously among the best food I have ever eaten. The sweet-and-sour bearded tooth mushroom was unlike the typical tangy version of sweet-and-sour, and was much more fragrant. The apple slices were a tasty touch. The cabbage dumplings were soft and flavorful. Fantastic fried rice. The sesame dango was so delicious, I nearly wept. The service was also extremely good, with several English-speaking staff. Even our waiter who didn’t speak English was friendly and helpful as we spoke to her in a mix of English and Japanese. Prices were very reasonable. I would have paid far more. Highly recommended!!

Fantastic range of choices - Edit
We ended up opting for the set menu for 10 as we couldn't decide what to try first from the extensive menu. The set menu included steamed rolls, dumplings, a hot pot, stuffed lettuce leaves, kebabs, vegetable and rice dishes and a pudding. Plenty of variety to keep our mixed group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians, Taiwanese and English, adults and children happy. Service staff were attentive but unobtrusive. We will no doubt go back again.

Mixed results - Edit
Take exit 8 from the Nanjing Songshan MRT station and it'll be right there, through a bakery and up on the second floor.
Read moreThe choices varied in how much we liked them, but to generally positive results. The pumpkin dumplings were really boring. The spring roll sticks were very tasty. The monkey head mushroom dish was quite good -- I've never had this kind of mushroom, and it is surprisingly meat-like in texture. The daikon pasties were delicate and flaky on the outside, and delicately soft inside, I've never been a huge fan of these but this was one of the best ones I've had. The nori rolls were filled with rice and sweet potato chips, which was really disappointing, just potato chips and rice.

Delicious!! Lacto-ovo labels on menu - Edit
Even though it’s pricey, this place is totally worth it. If you don’t make reservations, expect at least a half hour wait. Staff are friendly and very professional. The menu encompasses appetizers, mains, dim sum and desserts. Service is quick, and items with eggs/milk are clearly marked on the menu. I haven’t had dim sum this good since I went vegan 11 years ago!

Amazing! - Edit
Traditional Hong Kong style dim sum. Seems a bit formal at first as reservation is needed and all tables have white table linen. The menu is in English and Taiwaneese and has clear markings for what has egg or dairy. The food is so delicious, it’s really a trip for the tastebuds. Everything was like a surprise of flavours with high quality ingredients. I’m not a dim sum pro, but to me this was a true experience that I would recommend anyone travelling to Taipei to try.
