Very disappointed

Came here because of the reviews and was super excited to try a vegan restaurant on the Michelin guide, we booked for 9pm because it stated on happy cow it was open until 10.30pm, this is not the case. We looked through an extensive menu which took me a while to read due to really long descriptions of each dish! I am a chef and a restaurant owner have worked with Michelin star chefs and this is a big no no it becomes overwhelming to the client. After some time we all decided on what to eat and was ready to order only to be told that half of our order was off so we had to go back into the menu and start again! One of the party’s order was apparently a breakfast item yet it was on a main menu so no idea why you would not have a separate breakfast menu to an evening menu so as to not have any confusion. Even a basic drink of lime soda was off. Eventually our food started to arrive in dribs and drabs some of us had to wait and watch others eat for a good while whilst waiting for their food to come out. Now I know it’s not Michelin star it’s just guide but guide is meant to be based on the food alone and if I am honest I have had better meals here in Saigon for no more than £10 with more dishes and I wished I had gone back there tonight! The food was average really I even ordered the coriander tofu dish that was on review here on happy cow but the actual sauce tasted more of sugar and less of coriander. Halfway through our food we asked to order more drinks to be told the bar was now closed so we couldn’t even get a water, I personally can’t eat food without a drink so left over half of my food as did all our party. Never have I heard of a place to stop serving drinks if customers are still eating I understand a kitchen closing but never the bar whilst people are still there finishing food! Also one of our dishes failed to come out but because food was coming at all different times we did not notice until after we payed and left yet we was charged, I would have given 3 stars but decided on 2 for that reason it’s a big fat waste of time coming here if you have had a taste of the real Vietnam, go to some little old lady with a food stall you will get tastier food with no airs and graces and better tasting food. Don’t get me wrong I am happy to pay good money for great service and tasting food just wasn’t the case here and I feel Michelin need to give their heads a wobble because they really don’t know what they’re talking about on this one. Fail big time!

We appreciate your honest feedback and are truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at Vị Quê Kitchen. We understand your frustration, especially given your expectations as a chef and restaurant owner familiar with Michelin standards.

We'd like to address some of your concerns:

Michelin Guide: While the Michelin Guide is a respected indicator of quality, it's important to remember that it represents a specific perspective and may not align with every individual's taste. It also depends on the specific circumstances of each visit.

Menu Descriptions: We acknowledge your point about the lengthy descriptions. We aim to provide detailed information about our dishes, but we'll take your feedback into consideration and strive for more concise descriptions in the future. The detailed descriptions are intended to help customers understand the ingredients and make informed choices before ordering.

Menu Availability: We apologize for the inconvenience caused by unavailable dishes. We offer three separate menus (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) throughout the day. While we try to accommodate requests for items from different menus, it depends on ingredient availability as all dishes are prepared fresh to order. It's possible the items you attempted to order were from our breakfast or lunch menus, which may have limited availability in the evening.

Staggered Food Service: We apologize that your food arrived in dribs and drabs. This is certainly not our standard practice, and we'll investigate what caused the delay in your order.

Drink Service: We're particularly concerned about your comment regarding the unavailability of drinks, even water, while you were still eating. This is highly unusual and goes against our policy of providing beverages throughout the dining experience. We will investigate this matter thoroughly.

Missing Dish & Payment: We apologize for the missing dish and the oversight in charging you for it. We will review our order and payment procedures to prevent such errors in the future.

To help us fully investigate this matter and take appropriate action, we kindly request that you share more detailed feedback, including your name, date of visit, and arrival time, at info@viquekitchen.com and as we cannot accept payment from guests who are unhappy with their experience, we would like to refund you the cost of full meal. Please share your bank details or PayPal account information with us so we can process the refund.

Disappointed

Was really looking forward to this place and I was completely underwhelmed. We were a group of four who work for an award winning vegan catering company and three are chefs but didn’t enjoy the food. Having traveled all over Vietnam and had some of the most amazing food some it down some back street alleys this was far from the best. The food was quite bland and when we tried to order a second round of drinks the bar was shut even though we were only half way through our food which I thought was outrageous.

Pros: None

Cons: Not everything on the menu available , Refused to serve drinks just after served food, Food was very average for a Michelin guide

We appreciate your candid feedback and are sorry to hear that your experience at Vị Quê Kitchen didn't meet your expectations, especially given your expertise as chefs in an award-winning vegan catering company.

It sounds like your main disappointment stemmed from the bar closing at 10 PM, preventing you from ordering a second round of drinks. We understand your frustration, but as a fellow chef, you likely appreciate that businesses have operational procedures and closing times for various reasons.

We assure you that our staff informs all guests arriving after 9:30 PM about the 10 PM last order. We also make rounds before closing to check if anyone wishes to order anything further. It's possible that this communication was missed in your case if that happened, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Regarding the food, we acknowledge that tastes are subjective. While millions may enjoy our cuisine, we understand that it may not appeal to everyone. We strive to provide authentic and flavorful vegan Vietnamese dishes, but we respect that individual preferences vary.

As for the Michelin Guide, it serves as a general recommendation based on specific criteria. While it helps many diners discover exceptional restaurants, it doesn't guarantee a perfect experience for every individual.

We value your feedback and will continue to refine our service and offerings to ensure a positive experience for all our guests.

Sincerely,
The Vị Quê Kitchen Team

Mushrooms mushrooms mushrooms

What's the obsession with mushrooms? 😭 90% of the dishes contain mushrooms which many people don't like.

The limited few other options were pretty good but seriously, a bit more balance please or at least rebrand so it's clear that this is a mushroom restaurant.

Cons: Mushrooms, Mushrooms, Mushrooms

We appreciate your honest feedback and apologize that our menu's focus on mushrooms wasn't to your liking.

While we celebrate the versatility and flavor of various mushrooms in our dishes, we understand that they aren't everyone's favorite. It's possible our staff may have missed checking in with you about your preferences, as they typically do when guests seem unsure about the menu.

We encourage guests to inform our staff if they wish to have any ingredient removed from a dish. All ingredients are clearly listed with each item on our menu, making it easy to customize your order.

We value your feedback and will consider it as we continue to develop our menu and ensure a satisfying experience for all our guests.

We hope you'll give Vị Quê Kitchen another try, focusing on the dishes that appeal to your taste.

Sincerely,
The Vị Quê Kitchen Team
