Very special! - Edit
To find the entrance to Saido, I had to walk through a welcoming plant display. The intriguing entryway was a great introduction to the special touches found throughout the set lunch meal I chose (I won't ruin the surprises!). The meal included a drink, small soup and salad (both very well presented), a main course, and dessert.

Best vegan restaurant I’ve ever been to - Edit
Not only is this the best vegan restaurant in Tokyo, it’s also the best restaurant I’ve been to period.
Read moreThe food and service is on par with that of a 5 star dining experience.
The presentation and creativity of each dish was amazing. And the staff and chef eagerly explained the complexities and ingredients of each dish as they arrived.
I had the pleasure of starting with the vegan cheese salad combination, which was amazing and well balanced with a beautiful smoky flavor (which I truly enjoyed, I find that rare for a vegan cheese), well done. And the yakitori grilled “chicken” skewered bbq. Amazing, amazing, amazing to say the least. A must have if you’re eating here.
The main course was the “eel” bento box which was out to this world. Truly amazing and delicious. Huge congratulations to the chef, this was truly the most delicious vegan meal I’ve ever had. Well done. They also surprised me with a persimmon tempura which balanced sweet and salty perfectly and a fried “oyster” which amazing tasted just as advertised. Delicious.
For dessert I enjoyed the blueberry cheesecake, which came presented in a tiny flower pot with ground up nuts on top with a single “sprouted” mint leaf, complimented by a tiny shovel as a spoon. Ingenious, very creative, delicious and rich.
If you’re in Tokyo you must visit this restaurant at least once, and even that will not be enough as there are so many other dishes on the menu I need to try. Definitely coming back during my stay.

Best restaurant in Tokyo - Edit
Saido never ceases to amaze me. It is hands down not just the best vegan restaurant in Tokyo, but the best restaurant in all of Tokyo.
Read moreFirst of all, the staff are consistently wonderful. Whether it be the manager, the owner/chef, or a part-timer, they always make sure that everything is to your liking, and are more than helpful in explaining any questions you might have. There is also an English menu if you don't read Japanese.
Now for the food. After trying I think every main dish on offer at Saido, the only problem you're going to run into here is what you should order, because everything is beyond delicious. While it is slightly on the pricey side (now 2000 yen for a set menu including a drink), it's worth every single yen. There's also an extensive wine, beer, and Japanese sake menu if you're so inclined.
Saido is a must visit, it is worth the train trip from wherever you may be in Tokyo.

Went for lunch with a friend. For 2000jpy, a really creative three course meal with a nice drink (nonalcoholic sparkling wine was an option!) is amazing value.

Worth the trip! - Edit
Echo the other reviews- delicious, creative, and wonderful staff. We got the buns, mapo don and enagi. These and the seasonal dinner appetizers were delicious. The overall neighborhood also had some of my favorite shops/souvenirs from our trip - very charming and a highlight area of our visit.

Woa, totally recommend the unagi and the other rice dishes. The yakitori is mental. On the pricey side, but oh so worth it. Maybe worth calling ahead, it's a small shop.

Best vegan restaurant ever - Edit
I've never been to a place where I've wanted to try all the options on the menu. This is like a Michilen style restaurant with down to earth prices. The best vegan restaurant you will probably be to in Japan if not the world. Everything is pure class. It will go down in my books as the best vegan restaurant I've ever been to in my life. If your vegan and in Tokyo don't miss this opportunity for some vegan fine dining 💚🌱💚

Fantastic meal! - Edit
What a gem of a place! Tucked away in a quiet alleyway, this cozy place serves up amazing vegan Japanese dishes. Everything we had was delicious - french fries to start, the unagi and katsu for mains, and the blueberry cheesecake for dessert. The complimentary appetizer was refreshing. The staff are incredibly friendly and speak great English. If you're in Tokyo, this place is a must! Do not miss out! So glad we made the trek here.

Best Vegan Meal In My Life 😍 - Edit
The restaurant is located in a very relaxing & quiet area in Jiyugaoka (自由が丘), surrounded by plants 🌱
Read moreI ordered 3 plates; the vegan cheese salad with genovese sauce, vegan yakitori (grilled chicken), and the FAMOUS vegan eel over rice. All were delicious! As a recently turned vegetarian, I never thought that I would able to eat eel (one of my favorite foods) again. It exceeded my expectations; the flavor & texture were exceptional. I highly recommendation trying this dish.
The service was excellent & the staff super friendly😄I recommend this restaurant to everyone who visits Tokyo!
