Fantastic vegan menu and cocktails - Edit
Went here while visiting Philly and loved everything I tried! The cocktails were strong and delicious and the food was fantastic. The ambiance was perfect for a nice dinner and I’ll absolutely be going back here the next time I’m in Philly.

Amazing drink spot in center city! All vegan, but Omni friends always love their food too. Potato croquettes are a must-try, so are the sliders and appetizer board! Drinks are bomb

Go Visit Charlie! - Edit
I've been to Charlie Was a Sinner twice now, five years apart. My husband and I were able to get a same day reservation for an early dinner on 2 November 2021. We took advantage of their happy hour menu. We each had a specialty cocktail, which we both enjoyed very much. We shared the peanuts, which were very nicely seasoned; the fries with aioli, which were also nicely seasoned; and the bahn mi, which was so flavorful and hearty. For dessert, we shared the mint chocolate milkshake (it has rum in it) and the chocolate pot de creme. These also were insanely delicious.
Read moreTables are a little closer together than I was comfortable with. Service was good. As the place filled up, it got really loud in there. And before that, the 'background' music was so loud as to interfere with conversation.
Pros: Flavor, Selection, Drinks
Cons: Close tables, Music too loud, Loud when full

Good vegan food - Edit
Very tasty if a bit too expensive. I got the potato gnocchi which was a pretty small portion for the cost but my husband got the banh mi which was a bigger portion. I got the Charlie Punch cocktail which was really good and a boozy milkshake (it definitely tasted boozy) which was also delicious.

Bland, overpriced food - Edit
Either we went on an off day, I'm picky as hell, or this place is just really mediocre and over-priced because this food just did not taste good and well, I eat out a lot and have dined in vegan restaurants in over 50 countries now (from fast food to fine dining). We ordered the heirloom carrots with macadamia pesto (very bland), the zucchini ricotta flowers (which were supposed to be in a tempura batter but came in a very thick breading), the mac n cheese (this was the only thing that was quite tasty but $16 for a teeny dish? C'mon!), zucchini sliders (bland) and the eggplant bao buns (okay). So over-priced. So disappointing. I honestly don't understand the hype. If you must go, go for the cocktails. There are much better places for good food in Philly.

Sinfully Delicious - Edit
This place is always packed and with good reason, the atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, and the staff are awesome. Make a reservation or you won’t likely get a table. They also have a strong mixologist behind the bar who also makes some incredible mocktails.

Birthday Dinner - Edit
after wanting to visit this restaurant for ages, my fiancé and i finally booked a reservation for my birthday over memorial day weekend. and while we weren’t completely disappointed, we also weren’t entirely wow’d like we had thought we would be.
Read morethe atmosphere is great, but it was incredibly dark. very very very dark, i felt like i could hardly see what i was doing. and while the food was good, i had expected a little bit more from an entirely vegan restaurant. some of the flavors were more on the bland side and their sauces paired with some of the snacks didn’t taste much like anything.
i don’t regret going at all, it was an experience. but if i were to visit this place again, i would definitely choose alternative things from the menu. and i would go during the day instead of at dinner.
Pros: entirely vegan menu, nice staff
Cons: very dark atmosphere, crowded seating spaces , lacked in the flavors

Visited here in 2019 during a weekend trip. My boyfriend and I ate here 2x in 3 days because it was just that good. The gnocchi is something we still talk/dream about! The small plates are perfect because you will want to try it all!

Very Very Disappointed!!!! - Edit
I've been living a vegan lifestyle for 6 years and eaten in many vegan restaurants. Charlie Was A Sinner restaurant is the worse I ever experienced. The waitress was not friendly, the food's presentation and taste was absolutely horrible. I could not eat it. No one else enjoyed their food either. The prices are very high for the quality and service. A slice of very dry lemon cake was $11 a small glass of orange juice was $8. I was shocked when I received the check. I have no problem paying any amount for good food and service.
Read moreThere are plenty of other vegan restaurants in Philly and restaurants with vegan options.
Most were great!! and some were just ok. Charlie Was A Sinner biggest sin is charging outrageous prices for nasty food and horrible service.
Read other reviews from various website before making a decision to go there. You've been warned.
Pros: The interior layout is nice
Cons: The food is nasty, Waitress station across from bathroom, Prices are too high for the quality

Not for me! - Edit
I am primarily a nutritional vegan meaning I want healthy vegan food; organic, nonGMO, whole food, not loads of sugar. So Charlie's didn't do it for me and I wouldn't go back. Also the service was not good. Between the host, water refiller, and the server, no one was friendly - I would say they were doing the minimum.
Read moreMany of the dishes were battered and fried - meaning white flour. They did change to nonGMO oil a year or so ago which is great. Other dishes came with white rice. I opted for the starter, Green Olives and Red Grapes. It was fine for a bowl of olives and grapes. The saba sauce didn't make much difference. Then I had Baby Heirloom Carrots which didn't have much flavor nor did the sauce. I tasted the Korean Tofu which was good but sweeeeet! The Cauliflower Steak was a plain slab of not very flavorful cauliflower with bland pureed cauliflower, and some flavored rice which I heard was good. So I am sure folks wanting to not eat animals will be happy, but don't come if you care about what you put in your body. Oh yeah, they have fancy alcoholic drinks and a not very good small beer selection. The other negative was that we were 3, at a 4 top table on the sidewalk with an umbrella that only covered 2 of us. It was slightly raining in the beginning and they made no effort to fix that. Ugh!
Pros: NonGMO oil, Good for folks who don't support eating animals
Cons: Not very healthy food, So so service

Seamless order and pick up service during COVID. Had the lunch combo: Bahn Mi sandwich was on point- soft baguette, seared tofu and crunchy vegetable toppings including just enough sliced jalapeño to make things interesting. Accompanying kale salad was accented with roasted chick peas and delicious tiny cherry tomatoes. Top notch.

Charlie didn’t sin the vegans - Edit
My significant other and I went here whilst on a trip to visit Vegan Treats in Allentown right before a horrible nor’easter in December. It was us and one other couple in the whole restaurant, but the ambiance was fantastic and the drinks we got were fantastic and refreshing.
Read moreThe waiter that we had actually happened to know the owner of Farmspirit in Portland, OR and we had a nice little convo about that.
We split a few different appetizers and two entrees and all of it was fantastic. Because of how long ago it was that we were there, I can’t specify exactly what I liked about each item but they were all very thoughtfully put together and flavorful. It also wasn’t horribly heavy.
I was fortunate enough to get vegan French onion soup which I had never seen before at a restaurant, I hadn’t had it in probably 10 years by that point.
Pros: Fully vegan amazing bar food, Fantastic cocktails , Great waitstaff and bartenders
Cons: A little expensive but good quality, Parking can be tricky , Reservations are needed and can be hard to get in
